Considering counseling can bring up all kinds of questions. Here are some of the most common ones:
1. Why therapy? Shouldn't I be able to handle this by myself?
Research shows that interactive psychotherapy, particularly ACT is more effective for psychological disorders than doing nothing about them. But most of us do not have access to the extraordinary strategies available to manage emotional pain and still work, love, live and even laugh in the face of it. Relief from stress, depression, anxiety and relationship difficulties tends to occur more quickly and over the long term with the support of a highly trained therapist.
2. What is the length of treatment?
Each session is 45 to 60 minutes long. That said, I will work with you to develop an individual plan that works to meet your individual needs.
3. How many sessions do I need?
That's a great question.
Lots of people ask me how long does therapy take?
I like to start with a 6 to 8 week plan and see how you are faring then re-evaluate regularly. The duration of treatment for most clients is about 6 months but the range is anywhere from 6 weeks to several years. The overarching mission is always the same: for you to act on your values to change what you can in order to live a more meaningful, fulfilling life. It is understood that time is money and you want to reach you objectives as soon as possible.
4. Can you guarantee I will feel better after therapy?
The end-game, simply put is "peace of mind and heart". I also know that like anything, you get out of therapy what you put into it. While I cannot guarantee you will end up happier, I can say that clients in therapy who learn better coping techniques, who stay the course and show up committed to the process make extraordinary changes for the better. There is some homework involved, as most of your work will be outside of the therapy office where problems occur. We work collaboratively and I will ask that you give me feedback on how therapy is progressing to make sure I can be the most helpful and provide the best service to you.
5. Payment options?
You will be provided with a super bill to claim benefits if you have out of network behavioral health insurance. I am not in network with insurance plans.
